So you might have been following me a while or just stumbled across my site, and the first thought that crossed your mind was "Marketing with purpose and personality? What, WHY?" Good question. Let me answer with a short story.
Recently I was called a "growth hacker".
It happened once, I ignored it, and soon enough I was listed in every major curation of "people in growth hacking". And while many marketers would be flattered, I was deeply disturbed. Don't get me wrong, I think growth hacking is innovative and gets results, but when it comes to me, I am just not a growth hacker.
In fact, if there's something that's the opposite of growth hacking, that's me. While growth hacking is focused on data, I'm focused on people. While growth hackers invent push tactics, I focus on pulling people in, organically. And so on.
Had I not been called a growth hacker, "marketing with purpose and personality" wouldn't exist. So I owe these people a huge THANK YOU.
To answer your question WHY,
Because if you're like me, you might be feeling as though today's marketing strategies don't quite fit you. They're not your size, they don't feel comfortable, and you're tired of listening to expert advice that sends you down a rabbit hole of failed experiments and actual physical exhaustion. If you feel like that, I can sooooo relate.
And I'm making it my mission to seek you out and help you if you'll let me.
I'm not telling you this to sell you something - there's nothing to sell yet! - but to open your eyes to your everyday reality. Do you do things that feel uncomfortable? Do you say things that sound like someone else's line? Do you ever wake up feeling like you're living a stranger's life? (tweet it) It doesn't feel good, does it?
Forget marketing for a minute.
Let's drop marketing for a minute. The same principle applies to LIVING with purpose and personality. By living with purpose and personality, you attract the right people, you live with passion each day, and you never get called anything you're not. You don't get distracted from your life goals and you know what you stand for.
Whether you're marketing with purpose and personality or designing with purpose and personality or [insert your passion] with purpose and personality, it's all based on the same principles - being true to yourself & following your personal mission.
To be honest, what I would really love to do is meet other people who live (and market) this way, and to hear their stories. I want to make a community of purpose-driven and passionate creators. But I guess this step will come eventually.
A must-watch TED talk.
Before I go, I just want to share a very influential TED talk, which is with the late Scott Dinsmore, who sadly died a couple of days ago on his trip around the world. He was 33 years old and unfortunately, I never got to know him or read his stuff. He talked about "living your legend" and just living with passion. And judging by the global movement he created, he obviously walked his talk and lived his legend. May he rest in peace.
Now watch this video. It might be exactly what you need.
Please don't waste your time on this earth doing things you don't love. And please stop listening to experts instead of tuning into your gut. Most of the time the solution to your troubles is within you. You just have to listen and take action.
Now over to you...
